We read that part of your motivation to run is to help your grandmother – can you tell us a bit more about her?
Yes, she is the reason I am who I am today. She is the reason everyone knows Beatrice. She instilled values in me that help guide me in life. It is amazing to have someone like her in my life, and I appreciate her so much, and I would really love to return that to her and make sure she is happy, and she lives a long life.
When did you first fall in love with sprinting?
I wasn’t really in love with sprinting in the beginning, I actually preferred rugby. But I started doing athletics for fun at school, and I started to do well, and reached our nationals. That is where everything started happening, I started falling in love with athletics and I started training for it.
What other sports have you played?
I did rugby, soccer and netball. I have also tried a bit of volleyball.
Can you describe what it felt like to run sub-50s in the 400m?
It was unexpected and it was a big surprise. It was such an amazing feeling, indescribable. I didn’t really plan to reach that stage this year. Everything just came as a surprise.
What is your favourite training session?
It is when we do block starts, short sprints and 100m. That is where I get really excited. I also love the intense sessions, they are hard, but I still enjoy them.
Favourite food?
I don’t have a favourite food. I love food, as long as it tastes good! I am not choosy.
What superpower would you have if you could choose one?
I would choose to be like The Flash, so I could be much faster and have more speed.
